I agree why force a veteran or a spouse for that matter to prove over and over, causing delay after delay. Why will the VA NOT accept both VA and civilian Doctors documentation? But also why reward VSO's, directors, etc. for claims processing stat's when truly they're NOT earned? Why are VSO's so improperly trained that more delays are incurred, claims denied, appeals denied, all over and over. Why were documents shredded, destroyed, or mail just not even opened also causing more delays. Why did it take so long for the VBA to recognize that ALS should have been on the presumtives list and have an exception placed on it that benefits could only be paid from 09/23/08 and forward and not back paid from the date of original claim as all other claims are paid ?Why is the veteran held responsible for his records when it's the military who has failed to keep updated, accurate and timely records? The military is an employer just like any civilian employer in regard to record keeping, so they should be held accountable for inaccurate, insufficient, and redacted records for Veterans Benefits. Then I'd like to know why a bill past many years ago regarding spousal benefits to retirement pay on the final paycheck be taken back, yet never corrected to be duly payable to the spouse? The VBA system needs a complete over haul immediately, funded properly well in advance of need, claims processed more quickly, documentation not only hard copy but electronic copy as well immediately accessable by the veteran from a website along with all notes, comments, etc.The VBA needs to STOP all perks, non-essential travel, bonuses, etc. and redirect that money into upgrading and processing benefits for Veterans, spouses and their children!

Part and parcle of the problem is the amount of documention the VA is requiring to approve a claim. I have a vet who has prostrate cancer from Radiation exposure. We proved he was exposed to radiation and proved how much radiation is still in his system but that isn't good enough for the VA. We are now at a DRO hearing to show the VA that yes the cancer was caused by radiation exposure and yes he had enough exposure to cause the problem and yes his problems peeing is caused by over seeding him for the cancer. His Oncologist said had he known the amount of radiation left in the fatty tissue at the time of the seeding then my guy wouldn't have the problems he has now. Cold War Korea vets are facing the same problems with getting a claim through. The VA demands paper proof of a stressor. Gee's if you were in Korea in the early 60's when things were just getting hot, many of the guys you served with went to Nam and were either killed or are in a hole somewhere and don't wanta be found and an "Official" paper trail is non existant. Why can't the VA grant the claim for PTSD if both a Civilian and a VA doctor states that you have the problem? Why does the VA have to be such a pain about granting claims. One of the things that would speed the VA into doing things right the first time is to demand that the VA give each claiment a temporary 50% rating from the day the claim was filed. That would sure prompt them to make sure that they did the job right the first time.
